Louisiana Recovery News!

Greetings from the Westbank Storm Relief Center!
We've just had an anniversary! It has been a wonderfully rewarding and hectic four months since our center opened on October 3. Every day we have been witness to God's awesome power and blessings and it is an honor and priviledge to let God work through us at Aurora UMC and the Relief Center to bring hope and healing to our broken community.

Since our opening we have had 698 volunteers work through our center and they have served 427 people in our community. We have been able to close 218 cases and currently have 701 open cases. The phones ring constantly as word spreads throughout the community of the work being done through our center. Things have not slowed down!

Our center now has a staff of four. Jake serves as director, Abby &
Morris are our case work managers and I (Kathy) coordinate volunteers and sub as contruction site manager until one can be hired. (Know of anyone out there that would like to apply for Construction Site Manager or would like to be a volunteer in that capacity? It's a great place to work!)

Diane continues to volunteer as often as she can and helps to keep us all sane.

Good news. Thanks to wonderful volunteers from North Carolina, Ohio and Louisiana we are in the process of installing four additional showers in our children's building along with a washer and dryer hook up. The work has not been completed and we will need additional help in getting this area up and running in time for Spring Break March & April.

And now, I must take care of some business... Many of you have
"registered" directly with me. (Especially returning groups) It is now necessary for all groups to register online with our Conference Relief Center to make your registration complete. They are keeping a master calendar and this will prevent overbooking. The process should only take 5 minutes. Please make note that you have spoken with me (Kathy)and that you should be assigned to the Westbank Station. So, if have a trip booked with me or if you want to book a trip in the future you should call me and I will pencil you in on my calendar. Then you go to www.laumcstormrelief.com and register on online. They will in turn fax me the confirmation that you have been booked and we will be good to go.

We thank all of you who have been a part of our ministry and look forward to having many of you back with us in the months to come.

His humble servant,
Kathy Powers
