Eating lunch at Red Cross Shelter

I want to tell you about Mrs. Betty. She and her husband live in Algiers which is now incorporated into New Orleans. Her husband recently passed away, but they would have been married 50 years on Nov. 14. She and her husband had no children.
She lives in a modest home close to the Mississippi River levee in N.O. From the top of her displaced roof, I could see the ships floating in the Mississippi River. Her white, wooden fence was her husband's last gift to her while he was living, but it was taken by Hurricane Katrina and finished by Rita.
She is a great Christian lady who loves the Lord. She prayed with us and she even took us to her favorite Red Cross food distribution center to eat lunch with her as her guest. It was awesome to watch her as she led us through her despair. She always had a kind word even to the rude people. We sat under the tent at lunch and we ate our Red Cross meal with hundreds of Hurricane people.
As we were returning to her house, she showed us the height of the water from Katrina in the Levee. We went back to remove her refrigerator from her small house because the electricity had been out for more than 3 weeks. We also were placing the final wooden strips of blue tarp on her roof. She asked us if we were going to church today because it was Wednesday. She said, “I need to take my tithes to church tonight because our church has been damaged and we have not met in more than 6 weeks".
As she excitedly was getting ready to go to her church meeting, she asked me, “where is your boss?” “Are they here with you?” “Are they going to help us too?”
On behalf of the least, the Mrs. Betty’s of the world, and I believe Jesus, where are you and when are you coming? Matthew 25:31-46
We are returning to Aurora UMC in New Orleans Nov. 28-Dec.4. If you would like to join us please feel welcome.

The world is a dangerous place, not so much because of evil doers, but because of Christians who look on and do nothing.
